Shoreham Port Family Fishing Day August 9 2015

After a false start in July, when we had to cancel our first event because of terrible weather, the first of our Shoreham Port family fishing days took place on Sunday 9th August in blazing sunshine.

Over 50 people had registered for the event, some of them returnees from the first cancelled event. The day went very well with a regular stream of people coming along to try their hand at fishing in the lagoon and going on Mackerel trips on board She Likes It II skippered by Mark Vale.

Coaches were on hand to help including Graham Cridland and his team from the West Sussex Angling Academy.

Everyone caught fish, with little schoolie Bass putting in a prolific and helpful appearance by eagerly snaffling the worm baits dangled in the water. Those who went to sea to catch Mackerel all went home with some fish to eat for their supper, and some even tasted Mackerel sushi prepared on board. Nothing quite like eating fish fresh from the sea.

Species caught included Blenny's, Pipe Fish, Bass, Wrasse, Goby's, Pollock and many others - sadly the Grey Ghost (Mullet) did not put in appearance this time.

A big thanks to Shoreham Port Authority for letting us use the North Bank and providing portable lavatories. To West Sussex Angling Academy, also to the the Shoreham based South Coast Angling Club and the Trident Sea Angling Club whose members came along to help as well.

Also thanks to Billy Bantock who made a short film of the event which he posted on our Facebook page. Finally thanks to Adur Council and Action Eastbrook whose help with funding and publicity were essential to the success of the day.
